Weckt die Toten – the crazies are back! After more than three years, In Extremo returns with their brand new single, with which Germany's most successful medieval rock band now releases a gripping power song that even the Grim Reaper himself is thrown into an ultimate party frenzy. Meanwhile, the Berlin minstrels are finally back on a grand castle tour!
It has been far too quiet in the In Extremo camp since the band released their fourth Top 1 long player with the studio album "Kompass zur Sonne" in 2020. Now, the minstrels led by frontman Micha "Das letzte Einhorn" Rhein return loudly with their new single "Weckt die Toten," combining pure energy with an important message.
Wrapped in a quickly ignitable mixture of hard metal guitars, hypnotic medieval melodies, and a danceable electro-punk groove, the track explodes into a real feel-good chorus that makes every bone start to twitch wildly. The content of the text of "Weckt die Toten," filled with plenty of winking self-references, leans on the breakthrough album of the same name by the medieval rockers from 1998, which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary. For In Extremo, however, this is no reason to rest on their laurels.
"Without this important album, there would be no new single," says singer Micha Rhein. "At some point, we realized that 'Weckt die Toten' didn't have a title track. So we recorded one now. I think the piece is a beautiful homage to this band and our journey. We have a past that we can really be proud of. After 25 years, we can afford a song like this. We have always enjoyed trying new things and evolving. With 'Weckt die Toten,' we are taking the next step."
"Weckt die Toten" is both a carefree party anthem and a clear declaration of war, with which In Extremo charges into battle against the melancholy of these times with combined forces. A song with which the septet wants to shake people out of their lethargy and wake them up. "Today, all you see is death, misery, and doom," adds drummer Specki T.D. "A cruel reality that we cannot suppress, but from which we want to distract for a few moments. It is important to spread good cheer amidst all these crises to regain new strength. We fight together and we celebrate together. And we are excited to really get going again!"
The single release is accompanied by an elaborately produced video.

The clip was filmed at the former Soviet military airfield Werneuchen near Berlin and shows the band during a powerful performance. Additionally, students from the region were specifically cast to portray the teenage versions of the musicians.
Currently, In Extremo are in the well-known Principal Studios near Münster, working with Vincent Sorg and Jörg Umbreit on their next album. Meanwhile, the band can be experienced live on a grand castle tour, where, of course, the brand new single will also be heard. On to the final battle – and the final celebration!
