BETONTOD release the first track from their new studio album. An anthem for St. Pauli!

The floor is sticky. It smells of old sweat and stale beer. Your friends want to keep going, but you've actually wanted to go home since three beers ago. But then a stranger's gaze hits you right in the heart...
Stories that only real life can write. BETONTOD, who are among the most popular representatives of the local punk rock scene, have quite a few to tell after 30 years. Some you'd rather forget, while others you fondly remember. And now and then something happens that you have to write a song about. Like "Nie mehr St. Pauli ohne Dich". But let's provide a little context first.
Anyone who has even slightly engaged with German-speaking punk rock over the last three decades has come across BETONTOD. Founded in the early nineties in the quaint Rheinberg (“On a balmy summer night on a park bench,” laughs guitarist Frank “Eule” Vohwinkel. “No one believes that anymore today”), albums like “Traum von Freiheit,” “Revolution,” or the album “Pace per Sempre,” released in 2021, regularly land at the top of the charts. And live, Vohwinkel, singer Oliver Meister, guitarist Mario Schmelz, bassist Adam Krosny, and drummer Maik Feldmann have long arrived in the big concert halls. Even more: BETONTOD are regulars at the largest national festivals like Wacken Open Air or Hurricane/Southside, regularly thrilling tens of thousands.
With “Nie mehr St. Pauli ohne Dich,” the (strictly speaking) second single from the current album “Zeig dich!” (release date: May 26, 2023), BETONTOD have written one of the most captivating songs of their career. Driving, with crashing guitars and a killer hookline. In under three and a half minutes. And yet clearly rooted in their own musical socialization (somewhere between Sex Pistols, Die Toten Hosen, and Slime). On top of that, garnished with a few brass instruments as a little splash of color, done. That's how stadium punk is done, period!
It must have been a memorable evening that “Nie mehr St. Pauli ohne Dich” is about. But it's not about something mundane, like a hungover “never again” the morning after a drinking spree. It's about a feeling that races through your body and soul like lightning and doesn't let go. That you still lose the number you were given in your drunken state - that's a given. “Hamburg is - just like Berlin - one of our heart cities,” explains Frank. “But why we always have such things happen there, I don't know,” he chuckles.
Even Johnathan Frakes asked in the TV show “X-Factor: Das Unfassbare” the question that now burns: “Did this story really happen, or is it made up?”. And we want to know that now too. “So there was a buddy with me. He experienced all of this,” Frank chuckles. There’s just one problem: “We also lost his number, so you can't ask him yourself now. At least not directly.”
Honestly: It doesn't really matter whether the story is true or not. Because a great song is a great song is a great song. Because “Nie mehr St. Pauli ohne Dich” is a modern punk rock song that works not only at Millerntor, on the Reeperbahn, or in Hafenstraße. Because the feeling can be transported anywhere. Or as Frank says, “When it hits you, everything else is irrelevant. You can't do anything about it.” The fact is: “Nie mehr St. Pauli ohne Dich” is the punk rock anthem of the year, end of announcement.
