THE ALBUM “SONGS OF THE HIGHLAND, SONGS OF THE SEA” WILL BE RELEASED ON 18.11.2022
The Celtic-Punk veterans The Real McKenzies have released their new single “Leave Her Johnny” from the upcoming album “Songs Of The Highland, Songs Of The Sea”. “Leave Her Johnny is a song that has accompanied me my whole life, as it was taught to me by my grandmother when I was a little boy,” reveals McKenzie. “The song is about the many dilemmas that a longer absence can bring. Whether by land, by sea, or in the air, traveling puts every relationship to the test. Leave Her Johnny embodies the melancholic feelings of a true sailor setting out to sea.”
The new album “Songs Of The Highland, Songs Of The Sea” will be released on November 18 via Fat Wreck Chords (Edel) and features punk interpretations of classic sea shanties, including several pieces by the Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns.
Vocalist Paul McKenzie on the record: “You can really hear the camaraderie in these songs. There was never any fighting when we recorded them, but if there was a question, we sat down like sailors and talked about it. Because the last thing you need in a van - or on a sailing ship - are disputes. Because the next step is keel-hauling…”
