After two number 1 albums in the UK, Royal Blood announce their third studio album, "Typhoons". It will be released on April 30, 2021. The new single, which shares the same name as the album, is now available to listen to.
When Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher sat down to discuss recording a new album, they knew what they wanted to achieve. It was meant to be a conscious return to their roots, to the time when they made music influenced by Daft Punk, Justice, and Philippe Zdar from Cassius. This called for a fitting back-to-basics approach, similar to what made their self-titled debut album so captivating, instinctive, and original.
“We stumbled upon this sound quite by accident, and it was immediately fun to play,” recalls Kerr. “That sparked the creative flame for the new album". Once again, Mike Kerr's bass and Ben Thatcher's drums define the songs. Following the surprise single "Trouble's Coming", a second preview, "Typhoons", was released on January 22, 2021.

A recurring theme of the new album, whether directly or indirectly, is the exploration of the downsides of the success that Royal Blood experienced. The situation called for reflection and change, which Kerr tackled in Las Vegas. He finished an espresso martini and declared it his last drink. It didn’t take long for him to discover that his newfound clarity had a positive impact on his creativity and his entire life.
This new approach manifested in the duo's decision to produce most of "Typhoons" themselves. "Boilermaker" was produced by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme – both bands got to know each other when Royal Blood supported them on a North American tour. Meanwhile, multiple Grammy winner Paul Epworth produced "Who Needs Friends" and contributed additional production to "Trouble’s Coming".
