"Lockdown Holiday" - this is the title of the new album by British punk veteran TV Smith. It will be released on November 27, 2020 via JKP, the label of Die Toten Hosen, who, according to Campino, see TV Smith as both a friend and a role model.
TV Smith was one of the pioneers of the first wave of British punk rock with his band The Adverts in 1977. Since the 90s, he has primarily been on a solo path, releasing album after album and constantly touring across Europe. He has a reputation as an excellent lyricist, a punk poet, and increasingly presents his pieces in the mode of a classic singer-songwriter, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar. This is also true for his new project “Lockdown Holiday,” which, as the name suggests, was created during Corona and deals with Corona. According to TV Smith, he has never been so close to one of the least punk formats ever: a concept album. “Lockdown Holiday” is, as always, a deeply lyrical, compelling work that stays in the memory.

But it is also a snapshot in a historical situation. Created in his own home studio, in the midst of the UK lockdown, the album brutally captures the ambivalent, unprecedented mood of isolation - sometimes contemplative, sometimes bitterly ironic, always shifting between despondency and fighting spirit. And of course, TV Smith would not be TV Smith if he did not point out social injustices and raise his voice for the underprivileged.
