The HbW stalwarts Marco and Micha hammer a hellish hammer throw into the music arena in 2016. A concept album for both ears!
The Cologne punk cabaret artists deliver a powerfully composed concept album - a wordy work - angry - listenable in a frenzy - associative - fragmentary - deconstructed - without a classical plot - completely DIY - and still have not arrived in the maw of the major mainstream!
Instead of a plastic world, cultural loss, consumer fetishism, and digital madness, HbW presents current songs against the neoliberal and increasingly totalitarian zeitgeist and for new utopias.
The elegiac opener Forever Punk thematizes rockingly and hymnic the HbW perennial theme Germany, a united Zombieland, powerful and angry songs like Barbarei, Kein Vaterland, and Angepisst critically and wordily reflect modern manifestations of political culture.
In the second act, the artistic figure PAN takes us on his twisted satirical journey through the lowbrow TV and media jungle (Screw TV, Brain Death), and HbW continues to rock with harsh church criticism (Opus Dei) leading to hard nationalism bashing (Nationalstolz). In the third act, initially angry verses in the title track MANIFEST build up, then justice-oriented global social criticism is bundled in Brechtian ballad style in the overloaded track legal illegal scheißglobal, which ultimately dissolves cynically-utopically in the final song Anarchie.
The album was recorded and mixed over a period of 18 months at track 1-Studio in Bremen, played by Marco's old C.I.A. crew Elf and Olly, who together recorded a legendary album at Modern Music in 1997.
MANIFEST - The Punkrock OperA by Heiter bis Wolkig Punk Kabarett will be released exclusively via finetunes on November 11, 2016.
