With their previous albums "Applause" and "Rats" – and especially after their performances as the opening act for Editors – Balthazar has established their reputation as one of the most exciting bands from our neighboring country and has played their way into the top tier of highly melodic and danceable indie bands.
The band, led by Jinte Deprez and Maarten Devoldere (both on guitar and vocals), experiments with a playful, diverse, and bluesy sound. Four-part harmony vocals alternate with rather mumbled passages, distinctive bass lines, the ever-present violin of Patricia Vanneste, and other pointed arrangement ideas shape Balthazar's songs.
Bass and drums lay a solid grooving foundation on which the two singers & songwriters truly unleash themselves – they currently form one of the most exciting duos around! It's laid-back and, above all, stylish.
The 10 songs on "Thin Walls" were almost entirely written on tour, and for the first time, the band did not produce it themselves, but recorded at the English Yellow Fish Studios in Lewes, with support from Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode, Elbow) and Jason Cox (Massive Attack, Gorillaz).
