ROBIN GIBB: "50 St. Catherine’s Drive"
Unreleased album featuring the last recordings of BEE GEES member will be released on September 26
- Single "Sorry" available digitally since July 31!
In May 2012, co-founder, singer, and songwriter ROBIN GIBB passed away in London after a long and serious illness. However, in addition to the legacy of countless legendary BEE GEES albums and a whole series of solo works, his estate contained an almost complete album and some songs he wrote shortly before his death. On September 26, his last solo album "50 St. Catherine‘s Drive" will be released via Reprise/Warner/Rhino, which includes 15 new tracks and a newly recorded BEE GEES classic, as well as the single "Sorry".
"Sorry" is a very personal song that not only highlights ROBIN GIBB's exceptional songwriting qualities but also proves that he always kept up with the times. His unmistakable voice, combined with a charming arrangement and an absolutely contemporary sound, still evokes goosebumps and turns Sorry into a touching anthem. "Sorry" has been available digitally since July 31.
"50 St. Catherine‘s Drive" was compiled by ROBIN's widow Dwina Gibb and his son RJ Gibb and consists of almost all tracks that had already been recorded for a new album, along with some of the last songs ROBIN GIBB wrote and recorded shortly before his death. The album is named after the address of his birthplace in Douglas, on the Isle Of Man, and is a thoughtful and largely autobiographical collection of songs that were mainly written between 2006 and 2008 but have not been released until now. "50 St. Catherine‘s Drive" is a unique document of the brilliant songwriting talent of the extremely popular – and painfully missed after his death – artist.
The album includes:
- The single "Sorry"
- "Sydney", the very last song ROBIN GIBB ever wrote and recorded
- A new version of the BEE GEES classic "I Am The World"
- Three songs co-written by his son RJ Gibb
- Personal track-by-track notes from ROBIN's widow Dwina Gibb
All songs were composed or co-composed by ROBIN GIBB himself
"Sydney" is the last song ROBIN GIBB ever wrote and recorded, and since it is a demo version, it is not as perfectly produced as the others. Dwina Gibb explains why the song was included on the album:
"Robin wrote this song in August 2011 in the middle of the night at our home in Prebendal. He used the keyboard from the bedroom and the GarageBand app on his iPad. He actually wanted to finish the song with Barry for a new album that he would have loved to record with him, but his health condition did not allow it. He missed his twin brother Maurice very much, who had passed away in January 2003. But when Robin closed his eyes, he found himself with his brothers again in Sydney, Australia, where they were very happy and full of dreams and hopes for their future. Their future songs would then change the world. This fragment of a song is moving, longing, beautiful, and unfortunately unfinished. But as one of his last works, it belongs on this album. He cried while writing it, and I wept when I heard it."
Among the total of 17 songs, there are three that ROBIN GIBB wrote together with his son RJ. "50 St. Catherine's Drive" was produced by Peter-John Vettese.
