The launch of the major LED ZEPPELIN reissue series in June was a worldwide sensation: In Germany, all three reissues, "Led Zeppelin", "Led Zeppelin II" and "Led Zeppelin III", catapulted into the top 15 of the charts, while in the USA they reached the top 20 of the Billboard charts, and similar results were seen in Canada, France, Japan, England, and other countries. In October, the next two cult albums will arrive, which Jimmy Page has personally revised and updated: the magnificent "Led Zeppelin IV" (the third best-selling album of all time in the USA) and the fantastic "Houses Of The Holy"!
Like the previously released reissues, "Led Zeppelin IV" and "Houses Of The Holy" have also been personally remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page, who has dedicated himself with passion and great skill to the original analog tapes. Additionally, each album includes a second CD with previously unreleased mixes and alternate takes, providing a surprising insight into the work on the respective album. "Led Zeppelin IV", which never received an official title, is one of the most artistically influential and commercially successful albums in the history of rock music. Released in November 1971, the album set new standards for a whole generation of rock sound with globally recognized tracks like "Stairway To Heaven", "Rock And Roll", "Black Dog" and "When The Levee Breaks". In 1999, "Led Zeppelin IV" was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame and achieved a total of 23 times platinum in the USA!
The deluxe edition of "Led Zeppelin IV" shines with previously unreleased versions of all songs from the original album and includes alternate mixes of "Misty Mountain Hop" and "Four Sticks" as well as mixes of "The Battle Of Evermore" and "Going To California", which are heavily equipped with mandolin and guitar. Also included is an alternate version of "Stairway To Heaven", mixed at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, presenting fans with one of the greatest songs in rock history in an unheard dimension.
With "Houses Of The Holy" and legendary songs like "The Song Remains The Same" and "No Quarter", LED ZEPPELIN returned to number 1 on the US charts in 1973. The continuous evolution of the LED ZEPPELIN sound was reflected in songs like the reggae-influenced "D’yer Mak’er" and the funky jam session "The Crunge". The album was awarded diamond status for over 11 million copies sold.
Among the seven previously unreleased tracks on the companion disc are rough mixes and working versions of "The Ocean" and "Dancing Days", which provide a deep insight into the recording sessions of these classics. Other extraordinary recordings include the guitar backing track of "Over The Hills And Far Away" and a version of "Rain Song" without piano.
John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant founded LED ZEPPELIN in 1968. In the following years, the band became one of the most influential, innovative, and with over 300 million albums sold worldwide, one of the most successful bands in rock music. The band evolved from the ashes of the Yardbirds after Page brought Plant, Bonham, and Jones together for a tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, their first album, titled Led Zeppelin, marked the beginning of a 12-year triumph through rock history.
LED ZEPPELIN is still honored for their key role in music history. In 1995, they were inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, in 2005 they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their lifetime work, and the following year they were honored in Stockholm with the Polar Music Prize.
In 2007, founding members Jones, Page, and Plant, along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham, took the stage at the O2 Arena in London to headline a concert in honor of Ahmet Ertegun, a close friend of the band and founder of Atlantic Records. In 2012, the band was recognized at the Kennedy Center Honors for their contribution to American culture. After multiple gold and platinum awards, including in Germany, LED ZEPPELIN received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the ECHO 2013 for their lifetime work. In January 2014, they finally won their first Grammy in the category "Best Rock Album" for the album "Celebration Day", which references their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert.
