ZZ TOP: On Tour in Europe with "The Very Baddest Of..."
The Lone Star State Boogie is sweeping across Europe! Directly from Texas, ZZ TOP is coming to Europe in June to kick off their world tour 2014. Just in time for the tour launch, a Greatest Hits compilation is being released that brings together all the major hits of ZZ TOP from over 40 years of road career. “The Very Baddest of ...” ZZ TOP is available in two formats: as a double CD with 40 rocking boogie songs and as a single disc with a selection of the 20 best ZZ TOP tracks. Both versions are, of course, also available as a download bundle and can be enjoyed as a stream.
ZZ TOP has sold more than 50 million records in the 45 years since their founding, and in 2004 they were inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. Their original rawness, which consistently avoids any overdubbing in the studio, ensures that the band from Houston, Texas, remains the epitome of down-to-earth boogie rock. Their latest album “La Futura” was released in 2012 and catapulted to number 5 on the German album charts,
“We are very happy that the material, which has been released over time by three different labels, is now brought together under one roof. On a certain level, this is the reunion of a big bad family,” says Billy F. Gibbons, who, along with Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, forms the unchanged lineup of ZZ TOP since 1969.
The single CD version of “The Very Baddest Of ...” delivers a concentrated dose of Texan rock, boogie, and blues with 20 songs from three decades. All the well-known hits are included, from classics like “La Grange,” “Tush,” and “Cheap Sunglasses” to MTV staples like “Gimme All Your Lovin’” and “Sharp Dressed Man,” as well as newer songs like “Rhythmeen” and “Mescalero.” Among them are some single edits that are not available on CD or digitally.
The double CD version offers a full 40 songs, doubling the amount of legendary tracks and providing a more detailed impression of the trio's successful career. In addition to all the songs on the single disc, “The Very Baddest of ...” 2-CD version digs deeper into older albums.
Some early killer tracks emerge that still sound great, such as “Pearl Necklace,” “Just Got Paid,” and “(Someone Else Been) Shaking Your Tree.”
The expanded track listing also takes a more intense look at later albums like “XXX” (1999) and “Mescalero” (2003) with “Fearless Boogie” and “Que Lastima.” Appropriately, the album closes with “As Time Goes By,” which became immortal through the classic film Casablanca from 1942 and offers a quiet commentary on the band's incomparable longevity.
"The Very Baddest Of ...." will be released in Germany on 20.06.2014.
ZZ TOP will kick off their world tour on June 11 at the Bergenfest in Norway. In Germany, they will be seen in Cologne, Stuttgart, and Saarbrücken before heading to the USA to share the stage with Jeff Beck. There will be two complete sets, culminating in a six-string fireworks display with both acts together.
