Brian Setzer, songwriter, singer, and master guitarist, announces a new album titled "Rockabilly Riot: All Original," which will be released on August 8, 2014, via Surfdog Records (Membran). This is his first studio album since the 2011 Grammy-nominated CD "Setzer Goes Instru-Mental!" and, what will particularly please fans, it will offer rockabilly of the finest kind from start to finish.
With 12 new original songs, the album stands alongside the hit album "Rockabilly Riot Vol. 1" for the first time in nearly 10 years and showcases the lively single "Let’s Shake," demonstrating that Setzer's signature sound is as brilliant as ever and that he knows how to set the fretboard on fire, so to speak.
He is supported by three musicians who, according to Setzer, are "the best in their field": Mark Winchester (bass), Kevin McKendree (piano), and Noah Levy (drums). The album was produced in the musician city of Nashville by Peter Collins, who has also worked on Setzer's albums "Vavoom!" (2000) and "The Dirty Boogie" (1998). "It's funny, but the English seem to have a better sense of what rockabilly music is, even though it was actually invented in the southern USA," says Setzer. "They just seem to know how it should sound. Peter Collins is a seasoned producer who has made a lot of albums, but he simply loves rockabilly and knows how it should sound."
The three-time Grammy Award winner Brian Setzer is known for his courage in innovative music styles and for single-handedly reviving two forgotten genres: rockabilly in the 1980s and swing in the 1990s. Along the way, he has not only established a decorated career and a series of chart hits as the leader of the Stray Cats but also with his 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra and as a solo artist. He is continually cited as one of the best guitarists in the world and has a substantial line of bestselling Gretsch Signature Guitars bearing his name. His name is also inseparable from pop culture. In the 1987 film "La Bamba," the biographical story of the life and career of Chicago rock 'n' roll star Ritchie Valens, he makes a cameo appearance as rockabilly pioneer Eddie Cochran. In 2002, he is honored as one of the few musicians to be animated for an episode of "The Simpsons" alongside Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
"For me, it feels a bit like the first Stray Cats album," Setzer says about the new album. "These are rockabilly songs, not blues songs in a rockabilly style. I've heard people use the term 'Neo-billy,' which someone made up, but I find that term quite fitting because it sounds to me like very modern and fresh rockabilly."
The tracklist for Rockabilly Riot: All Original is:
1. Let’s Shake
