For most, ERIK COHEN is still a relatively unknown figure. Yet the native of Kiel is anything but a stranger in the local rock scene.
For over a decade, he earned sustainable recognition as the frontman and songwriter of the HC/Punk legend SMOKE BLOW, which culminated in several cover stories in national music magazines and numerous accolades in the category of "Album of the Month". However, in the fall of 2011, the band announced that they would no longer be recording any more albums. They felt that they had said everything musically exciting within the self-imposed genre boundaries.
Behind the scenes, SB frontman Jack Letten had been diligently and persistently working on an artistic concept that would open up new musical possibilities for him and also present real challenges in songwriting: ERIK COHEN.
The polishing of his - still untitled - debut continues to this day, but it is set to reach its final completion in the coming months. His songs will definitely be stage-ready by March when ERIK COHEN's live premiere takes place at the Hamburger Knust.
His fundamental ambition is clearly defined: authentic HITROCK, meaning timeless, German-language songs that possess unique characteristics / a high recognition value and immediately get stuck in your head. The rocking class of stylistic giants like Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Motörhead, & Co. is to celebrate a wedding in ERIK's world of thoughts with a dynamically melancholic grace in pop, as wonderfully multifaceted and uniquely perfected by formations like Depeche Mode.
Songs that are projected onto the big screen in CinemaScope style, telling grand, classic cinema in short, concise verses, purposeful bridges, and brightly shining choruses. The coming months will be exciting; ERIK's first signs of life "Chrom" and the cover version of Rheingold's "Dreiklangsdimensionen" are a small promise regarding the fundamental song quality that will be fulfilled more sustainably later than one might imagine now.
