Somewhere between a shimmering beat and an unrelenting (and addictive) bassline, a distorted voice intones: "I like Zapp not Zappa".
Although the words penned by Alexis Taylor were originally a reaction to misunderstandings during one of his DJ gigs - as a statement of the album’s intent, they speak volumes. They seem to say that this album is playful, yet free from trivial nonsense and unnecessary pomp. It’s a cheerful record - aimed at the heart and the dance floor.
The keyboard of musical influences for Hot Chip ranges from soul, R&B, gospel, Detroit house, and disco to funk. The specific sound that the band has committed to with this diversity remains unique.
