On May 18, 2012, the new album by Soulsavers in collaboration with Dave Gahan, titled "The Light The Dead See" (V2 / Cooperative Music), will be released. The album consists of 12 songs, a collection of majestic and powerful tracks - the lyrics and vocals are entirely by the legendary Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan.
Following the highly acclaimed third album "Broken" from 2009, "The Light The Dead See" marks the new and fourth album by Soulsavers. While in the past it was particularly the collaboration with Mark Lanegan that gave the project a voice, the new songs have now been created together with Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan, whose distinctive voice makes each song on the album unique.
The magic of this special collaboration can be heard and felt throughout the entire album. For Dave Gahan, this is the first project after his illness, and in his lyrics, he grapples with the big questions of life. The various highs and lows of his life are reflected, almost biographically, as Gahan manages to make each song his very personal piece of music. The lyrical intensity seamlessly translates into the vocals, allowing Dave's voice plenty of space and expression, proving what a brilliant singer he is. “About five songs in, I realised I was writing outside myself. I was having a go at myself, to be honest: my questions around faith, and God, or the lack thereof at any given moment. (...). This album became very therapeutic. No restrictions. Coming out of getting sick myself, I found I HAD to get this stuff out of me. This music gave me the perfect palate to play with the BIG questions that we all ask when life becomes less about what can we GET, than: what can we DO?”
“It was a complete collaboration. There was no real script, Dave brought a lot to the table,” says Rich Machin about the extraordinary album "The Light The Dead See". “We realised we were coming from the same place in so many ways,” Machin adds. “He’s really laid himself bare on this record, his contribution is astonishing,” says Gahan. “Everything about it was relatively unplanned, surprising: a magical thing. We were a perfect match and I’m very, very excited about this record.”
Soulsavers is the musical project of Rich Machin and Ian Glover, which has been making bigger waves since their debut album "Tough Guys Don't Dance" (2003). Rich and Dave met during the 2009/2010 European tour of Depeche Mode, where Soulsavers were invited as support.
