Suicide of ELLIOT SMITH Confirmed

The suspected suicide of punk singer and songwriter ELLIOT SMITH has been confirmed. The cause of death for the musician, who passed away on October 21, was self-inflicted stab wounds. This was not the first suicide attempt. SMITH had previously attempted to take his own life in 1997.

Relatives have released the following statement about SMITH: Elliott was a beautiful, gentle soul, generous beyond words and loved so much by all of us. We wish to extend our gratitude to the many people who supported him and have been touched by his music. While Elliott will be deeply missed, his spirit will always be with us.
