In 2004, Indymedia was still referred to by the domestic intelligence agency of North Rhine-Westphalia as "one of the most important internet information sites of the left-wing extremist scene." Today, the portal is struggling with the same problems as any independent entity on the internet, facing the blue danger of a centralized network that only operates through the servers and whims of Facebook. Due to declining user activity, several larger projects have already been discontinued. Now, the outlook for German Indymedia is also grim. The administrators have given themselves until spring 2013. If nothing changes in the currently deteriorating state of the portal by then, it will be converted into an archive, and further interaction will no longer be possible. To prevent this from happening, motivated supporters are now being sought to breathe some life back into the cause.
