Once, the Stooges wrote music history. Tracks like «1969» or «I wanna be your dog» have lost none of their magic even today: timeless, powerful, and brutal rock'n'roll without frills. With messages that paved the way for the musical earthquake that later entered the annals of rock music as punk.
In August of this year, Iggy Pop held a much-celebrated reunion concert in his hometown of Detroit with founding members Scott and Ron Ashton of the Stooges. The following month, the original fathers of punk overwhelmed the French Magny-Cours with their decibel avalanche. And the party continues. On the newly released album «Skull Ring», the now 56-year-old Iggy recorded four tracks with the Stooges – feedback guitar rock at its best.
Blood Refreshment
However, Iggy Pop does not freeze in the past; instead, a blood refreshment occurs through the young pop-punkers of Sum 41, with whom he recorded «little know it all». Iggy Pop recorded two songs with the band Green Day, and on two others, the Berlin-based rapper Peaches features («At the Motor Inn», «Baby we are living in sin»), who was recently named the «most exciting pop artist this autumn» by the British Observer.
Despite all this, Iggy Pop has remained true to himself. His thoughts in the songs still revolve around what makes a hardened rocker happy: «Skull rings, fast cars, hot chicks, money». The music of the man with one of the most distinctive voices in rock history still sounds raw and wild. And there are rumors that he will soon go on tour in Europe again.
