Or rather there was, because the police officer who allegedly warned the squatters on Brunnenstraße via email about the upcoming eviction is now facing trial. Breach of secrecy is the charge against the police chief, who also expressed his sympathy for the squatters in the email. He himself denies the allegations, while the technical evidence weighs heavily against him.
According to Zeit, the tip-off for the capture of the perpetrator was provided by the left-wing daily newspaper Junge Welt, which, upon receiving the email, directly forwarded it to the police authorities. What is particularly interesting about this case is the effort being made to investigate such a "crime," while the clearance rate for police violence remains so low that even Amnesty International highlights this in a specially established project.
