A flood of bands wanted to pay their tribute. So many that even for the double CD "A Tribute To Japanische Kampfhörspiele" selections had to be made. This resulted in a reduced playtime of 160 minutes, during which 75 bands present their own interpretations of the originals. It will still be a while until the sampler is released on December 1, 2011, via unundeux, with the vinyl version coming from the Austrian label SchnapsIdeeRecords.
Look forward to A TRIBUTE TO JAPANISCHE KAMPFHÖRSPIELE! 75 bands and artists have interpreted JAKA in very special ways. Together, they have created a wild mix. From extremely skilled to technically challenged, from simply thrown together to super flamboyant, from wow to well, there's everything that JAKA stood for. All artists were given maximum creative freedom; everything was allowed ("... does my cover version have to have anything to do with the original?" was one of the FAQs on the Tribute-To-JAKA information website. And the answer: "NO"). Some artists took advantage of this opportunity, many clearly covered the songs, while only a few simply played them as they were. The stylistic diversity of the participants is remarkable. JAKA was a cross-genre phenomenon, and thus the tribute is not purely metallic. True metal fans can test their tolerance much more with this album, and WDR2 listeners as well. Some artists who initially announced their participation ultimately did not manage to deliver anything within the deadline. And thankfully so! In total, over 200 minutes of material were submitted even without these. Simply too much, as a small label like unundeux cannot afford more than a double CD! Therefore, selections had to be made. Days were spent listening and deliberating ("This person bought us a beer once, let's include them.", "Kreator? Too commercial, leave them out ..."). Again and again, the submissions were filtered until the total playtime of 160 minutes was finally reached. The double CD "A TRIBUTE TO JAPANISCHE KAMPFHÖRSPIELE" will hit the stores on 01.12.2011. Additionally, a vinyl version will be released through the Austrian cult label SchnapsideeRecords.
