MySpace is practically history, but in Berlin, there is MyFest. On Labor Day, there will be many activities on various stages and in clubs. So, if the night with the little green men wasn't enough, you can continue to let loose here. The full program can be found at www.myfest36.de, or specifically here.
With pleasure, our district invites you to the festival on May 1st for the 9th time this year. A year of lively discussions, collaborative planning, and hard work lies behind the organizers – the MyFest crew, dedicated residents, members of clubs and initiatives, staff from youth facilities and independent providers, as well as local businesses, the Berlin police, and employees of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office. The impressive diversity of cultures and the variety of artistic styles that are lived in our district, especially here in the festival area, are reflected in MyFest and can be experienced and enjoyed here. A look at the program makes it clear: the residents and the MyFest crew have succeeded in reflecting a vibrant and diverse community that brings together and connects people from culturally diverse neighborhoods.
But MyFest is much more than that. It is the collective commitment of all participants to coexistence without violence – especially and precisely after the festival. A coexistence that consciously sees the peculiarities of Kreuzberg 36 and its multiculturalism as an opportunity. This particularly concerns our youth in SO 36.
Therefore, MyFest 2011 is also intended to appeal especially to the young people in our district: There will be a youth street, two HipHop stages, and other interesting music offerings. Ultimately, we also aim to activate young people whose living situation is often characterized by a lack of perspective. We will need much more social and political effort to enable these young people social equality of opportunity.
