Just in time for the spooky season, The Hellflowers are sending a musical love declaration of a different kind into the race: Their new single "Creature" has just been released and provides a darkly playful preview of the upcoming studio album Haunted.
The punk rock band from Los Angeles, led by singer Christina Eskew, draws its inspiration from a true B-movie classic: Creature from the Black Lagoon. The result is a mix of garage grit, '77 punk energy, and twisted romance – a homage to the longing for someone (or something) that can never be fully possessed.
"I am absolutely obsessed with Creature from the Black Lagoon, so it was high time I wrote a love song about him," explains frontwoman Christina Eskew. "I’m really excited that the song is out just in time for Halloween."
Musically, The Hellflowers once again skillfully combine the catchy melodies of Blondie and The Pretenders with the raw attitude of the Ramones and The Clash. Following the anthem "Wild Ones" released in September, "Creature" is the second single from the band's third full-length album: Haunted is set to be released in February 2027.
The accompanying music video was directed by Matt Eskew (Cinematography: Lara Green & Adi Consentino) and visually captures the retro horror vibe of the track.
