To experience the true Pain, the Swedes had to make a stop in the bald area during their European tour with Nightwish. On their day off on February 22, the guys led by frontman Peter Tägtgren stopped by a pub in Leipzig. During their subsequent search for a taxi to take them back to the tour bus, three unknown individuals seemingly had nothing better to do than to stir things up with the musicians. As drummer David Wallin reports, he was struck on the head with a wine bottle, resulting in a head wound that required 8 stitches and a concussion. Peter also had a wound on his cheek that needed 10 stitches, and he ended up with a black eye. Johan was hit the hardest, suffering from various bruises and a broken nose. A witness to the events ultimately drove the three to the hospital, and under these circumstances, the concert the following day could obviously not take place. However, there is hope that they will be able to continue with the remaining dates of the tour.
We arrived here [in Leipzig] yesterday and three of us spent the evening of our day off at some local bars. When we had enough we walked out on the street to find a taxi back to the bus and three assholes decided to kick us down and hit me in the head with a wine bottle. Some guy who recognized us helped us in his car to a nearby hospital. Peter's got a really black eye and was given 10 stitches on his cheek. I have a concussion, eight stitches on the side of my head and glass in my hands. Johan has a broken nose and bruises all over. We're really sorry for canceling tonight's show but it just wasn't possible. We're gonna do our best to get back in the saddle again and continue the tour without further interruption. Everything tastes better with blood in your mouth.
