RANTANPLAN
30th anniversary – The album "Blast Off NY" on 12.09.2025 (Hamburg Records / Kontor)
Recorded in just 4 days in February, Rantanplan gives themselves an old-school production in the style of the nineties for their 30th anniversary.
Engineered and produced by hardcore punk legend Don Fury (Quicksand, Into Another, Shelter, Agnostic Front, SOIA, Worldinferno Friendship Society, and many more).
All real live recordings.
No overdubbed double-copy & paste synth backing track nonsense.
Just each with their instrument and a microphone (Shure SM58) and the tough magic of the New York master and his studio DFS. Most bands can’t do that anymore these days. A well-deserved collection of mostly older classics from the early albums. Properly polished through decades of playing!

Founded in 1995 by Torben Möller-Meissner and Reimer Bustorff in Hamburg to produce their own soundtrack for hanging out at the Baltic Sea, Rantanplan (a name that counters American fighting dog bands) gained nationwide attention with their debut album "Kein Schulterklopfen (Against the Trend)" in 1996. Similarly celebrated in the media, the album "Köpfer" followed in 1998. A joint third album with Reimer and Marcus Wiebusch was not to happen, as both left the band shortly after in 2000 to successfully wade into the indie-pop swamps.
Rodrigo Gonzales from Die Ärzte saved Rantanplan in the millennium by supporting the band, insisting on a mega-good deal for a new album, and saying, "If you can’t find anyone, I’ll play bass on the record and tour."
With Peso, they found a beast on bass, and the album "Samba" was released in 2001. They found themselves in the opening act for Die Ärzte, but there were always total crashes, and as a result, the ailing mutt stumbled and got ticks and fleas. The 2004 DIY album "Junger Mann zum Mitreisen gesucht" hardly gained any recognition. With a new rhythm section, album productions followed in New York (Album 20359), live in Hamburg, and at the renowned Clouds Hill Studio. However, during the studio work, singer, guitarist, and main songwriter Torben fired the entire band except for Wido due to conspiracy.
With an international lineup, "Unleashed" was released in 2010, only to continue the revolving door of band members. There was never a complete standstill between "Pauli", "Licht und Schatten", "Stay Rudel - Stay Rebel", and "Ahoi", but in the last decade, it turned out that Rantanplan became a pack of over a dozen old and new street dogs who complement each other in stage and studio life according to project needs. Quite similar to the once-great Ton Steine.
