Vithia adds: "It is violent and beautiful," was the headline used in 1991 to announce the release of AKIRA and its NEO TOKYO in France. No other country outside Japan has been hit as hard by the manga phenomenon and Japanimation as France. With this thought in mind, we composed "NEO PARIS". With this title and this graphic, I tried to convey a feeling, to affirm our French identity while promoting our country's very special relationship with Japan. "NEO PARIS" is also about explaining to the world that the city of lights, which it romanticizes, doesn't really exist... That there is the daily reality of an urban jungle that is much more violent than it seems, but also that this environment has produced an artistic and musical scene that has adopted parts of Japanese pop culture and in which an entire generation has found refuge."
