GUT HOLZ (28.03. Dackelton Records) - Is this not the somewhat aged good luck greeting that is shouted on smoky and often hidden bowling alleys before the balls are rolled with purpose? Quite possible – But maybe it is much more.
Perhaps it stands for the good wood of the boards that mean the world, for climate protection, or above all: For the fifth studio album of the punk rock band DREI METER FELDWEG.
Inspired by the aforementioned bowling greeting – a congratulation that has long since become a catchphrase embedded in the band's DNA and is celebrated before every concert. Now it is time for DREI METER FELDWEG to send a well-crafted GUT HOLZ out into the world – because a little luck is something we all urgently need right now.
Two and a half years have passed since the release of the last album DURAK, and a lot has happened at Feldweg. After a chart placement, sold-out tours, and concerts at the biggest festivals in the country, work has been done intensively and with new perspectives on a new record. Many of the songs deal with personal stories - from clinging to long-gone relationships (FÜNF KLEINE KAKTEEN), to the painful club closures (LETZTER TANZ), to melancholic wanderlust (IRGENDWO ANDERS), or the critical engagement with social media (ALLE DEINE BILDER).
But we are writing the year 2025, and the global political situation is not passing DREI METER FELDWEG by without a trace. The band is asking questions about political and social developments – from growing extremism (KROKODILSTRÄNEN) to dark future scenarios (WOLKEN IM PARADIES) to loss and transience (NICHTS FÜR EWIG). This shapes the songs and brings a new hardness to the songwriting that was not known on the previous albums.
GUT HOLZ follows the consistent development of DREI METER FELDWEG. Catchy and danceable melodies in punk rock attire meet ironic, critical, and self-identifiable lyrics. Occasionally, new sounds are experimented with, yet the band's distinctive style remains intact.
