After an eight-year hiatus, the Canadian band Propagandhi from Manitoba announces today their eighth studio album At Peace, which will be released on May 2 via Epitaph Records.
"For me personally, this record could be a snapshot in which I decide whether I will spend the rest of my life as Eckhart Tolle or as Ted Kaczynski," laughs guitarist and singer Chris Hannah.
In true Propagandhi fashion, At Peace is intelligent music for dangerous times. The ever-evolving flag bearers of politically charged punk have actively fought against musical boundaries and bro-punk conservatism, spreading an antifascist message since 1986. With their DNA of breakneck riffs, hardcore ethos, and radical consciousness, their message remains as vital and urgent as ever.

"Everything I sing about still comes from the same person who wrote and sang our first record 'How to Clean Everything' in 1993," Hannah recalls the biting skate-thrash origins of the band. "But what we’re putting into the songs now probably reflects more despair than 30 years ago when we had similar perspectives but with strands of hope and naivety. Now it’s about the existential fear of leading a worthwhile life in this completely failed society."
It is unmistakable that on their first album in eight years, their social activism has been replaced by a deeper sense of reflection. Almost a decade later, the members of Propagandhi have a lot on their minds. "We are definitely not a band that responds well when someone tells us we need to put something out," the frontman continues. "That happens when we have something to talk about - and now is definitely the time for that."
At Peace is their first release since Victory Lap in 2017 and was created during the threatening political climate in the months leading up to the rise of "Emperor" Trump. The album was conceived shortly before the American oligarch proposed to make Propagandhi's home country the 51st state of the USA and was then mixed in December 2024 at the Blasting Room Studios by Jason Livermore (including Rise Against, Hot Water Music). This collection of poetic and polemical songs captures the fears and turmoil of the four band members and offers a powerful and moving portrait of uncertainty.
At its core, however, At Peace is Propagandhi's plea for hope and against hopelessness. "Twenty years ago, we felt that things were fucked up, but that there could be a mass mobilization of people against the oligarchy, the billionaire class," says Chris. "I don’t think that exists in our music anymore, and I also don’t think there will be such a mobilization. I hope to be proven wrong."
The band will tour Europe next May as part of the RECONSTRUCTION TOUR 2025 (including Pennywise, Comeback Kid, The Iron Roses, and Dead Pioneers. And with special guests Madball in Barcelona, Wizo in Augsburg, and Dritte Wahl in Berlin). Below are the relevant tour dates for us.
