"Rest Your Eyes" is based on a true story and tells the tale of 15-year-old visually impaired Amar, who fled Syria with his older sister in 2017. The paths of Amar and ALARMSIGNAL singer Steff crossed professionally, and after some time, the boy confided his story to him.
The financial situation made it impossible for the entire family to flee, so Amar's father decided to use all his savings to at least grasp the last straw for his children — hoping to provide a better future for his two kids through their escape. During the long, dangerous, and exhausting journey, there were many moments when Amar needed encouragement from his sister, and the meaningful phrase “You will be safe to rest your eyes” remained a special beacon of hope for him from those moments. Once they arrived at the recording location, everything turned out well for Amar; foster family, medical help, school, training, future.
ALARMSIGNAL wants to highlight a positive story amidst all the prevailing negativity and tell it. It should remind us all that the light is not out everywhere and that it could shine in several places if wealthy Europe did not isolate itself and trample on human rights.
The song is another building block in ALARMSIGNAL's effort to listen to young people and give them a voice. Since 2021, singer Steff has been a patron of the Celler location of the "Ludwig Fresenius Schule" alongside figures like Federal President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Cem Özdemir, and musicians like Axel Bosse, Jan Delay, or the band MIA, under the motto "School Without Racism - School with Courage".
Steff says: “I support "School Without Racism - School with Courage" because it must be clearly communicated in all areas that racism, discrimination, and exclusion have no place in our society and that we must always and everywhere courageously confront these abominations. Whether in private life, at work, or in the schools, where this nationwide school network sets a necessary and important example. Against racism and for an open and peaceful coexistence, regardless of nationality, origin, skin color, religion, or gender.”
