RAT BOY
NEW SINGLE WITH VIDEO VIA HELLCAT / EPITAPH!
The adventurous journeys of RAT BOY across genres have led the band, fronted by Jordan Cardy, on similarly sprawling travels around the globe. But wherever they go, they inevitably return to their home in Essex. And that is the theme RAT BOY explores as they present their new single "Suburbia Calling," their first new music in over two years.

"Suburbia Calling" combines prickly indie pop with Jordan's drawn, half-rapped vocals and could be a big beat from Blur or The Streets if they had emerged in the midst of Britpop. As expected, the musical anarchy of RAT BOY provides the backdrop for Jordan's unmistakably British lyrics, which offer both insight and humor with their postcard images of small-town culture. "Suburbia Calling" is RAT BOY's answer if Essex ever needed its own national anthem.
Displaced from London, one is back in the world of commuters, curtain-twitching neighbors, and Union Jacks - and you know what? It's good to be home again. While "Suburbia Calling" specifically deals with Essex, anyone living in the satellite towns or outer travel zones near a big city will be able to relate.
Jordan says: "This is a love letter to the suburbs. It made us and shaped us. It's good to be back."
"Suburbia Calling" was produced by the renowned Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths, Kaiser Chiefs). It was written by Jordan along with his co-producer Sam Preston (jxdn, MOD SUN).
When RAT BOY emerged with their debut collection "The Mixtape" (which recently appeared on Spotify), they quickly earned an excellent reputation, as their genre-defying style and biting lyrics encapsulate the experiences of their generation. But RAT BOY just wanted to play by their own rules.
Originally a solo project, RAT BOY evolved into a full band identity (with guitarist Harry Todd, bassist Liam Haygarth, and drummer Noah Booth), yet still broke into the UK Top 15 with the temperament and dark themes of their debut album "Scum."
RAT BOY's next stop was a detour into the American punk scene, where they collaborated with heavyweights like Tim Armstrong (Rancid, Operation Ivy) and Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion, Epitaph Records), toured with The Interrupters, and garnered admiration from Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park).
This experience resulted in the mixtape "Internationally Unknown" and the subsequent EP "Govrnment Vacation." Since then, RAT BOY has focused on their other projects (the "Pay Day" album by LOWLIFE and a mixtape by MILA) and brand new music, with only sporadic live shows in 2023, including an appearance as a special guest of YUNGBLUD and a hometown warm-up in Chelmsford.
