Keinkultur Festival No. 2 19.05.2012
After visiting the Bonn Rheinaue for the opening of the new halfpipe (one of the largest outdoor halfpipes in Europe), I made my way towards Bad Godesberg to attend the Keinkultur Festival at Klangstation for the second time. I find it particularly noteworthy that when purchasing tickets online through Dissentertainment, you received a longplayer from an American band (Bomb The Music Industry) for free. That's how you secure visitors!
The line-up was as follows:
Molotow Soda, Milenrama, Schreng Schreng & La La, Kotzreiz, Love A, Casanovas Schwule Seite, A Hurricane's Revenge, Duo Tropical
Unfortunately, I wasted some time and the bus driver from Rheinaue to Bad Godesberg was not exactly the fastest, so I missed the first two bands: Duo Tropical and Schreng Schreng & La La, so I can't say much about them. Overall, it doesn't seem sensible to recount this evening band by band. The bands I did see all delivered a solid performance, and the audience was thoroughly enjoying themselves. It's definitely worth mentioning that the whole atmosphere of this one-day festival was extremely pleasant, and I met many nice and familiar faces. Well, maybe with some exceptions: a strange guy named Sid was wandering around, trying to tell us that it would be cool to provoke with Nazi symbolism, music, and gestures. Idiot…
Otherwise, there was plenty of merchandise from the various bands and from Kopfnuss Verlag, as well as delicious beer and chili sin carne available for purchase.
During the breaks between the bands, you could sit outside on the grass in front of the train station and cool off a bit. A group of people discovered "Pro N…" posters hanging at a considerable height right in front of the station. Let someone say punks are not creative or even acrobatic: they used the SPD poster directly underneath to gain some height, and then one punk climbed onto the shoulders of another, reached the "Pro N…" poster with his fingers, and managed to remove it. It was painful to watch as one guy with who-knows-how-many-hole combat boots climbed onto the shoulders of the other guy. But apparently, it was worth it.
To perhaps not completely overlook the bands, a couple of sentences about them:
A Hurricanes Revenge delivered a good set, sometimes reminding me of Millencolin or similar Burning Heart bands.
Milenrama from Spain showcased an energetic HC/Punk show, culminating in their attempt at Wizo's "Raum der Zeit," which they almost performed better than the original!
I've seen Love A several times now, so I didn't catch much this time because I was partly outside. However, every time I've seen them before, it was always a good show, and from the reactions I noticed, it seemed to go similarly this time!
Kotzreiz from Berlin should definitely not be confused with the unspeakable other band from the Ruhr area with a similar name. The Berliners managed to create a beer tent atmosphere at Klangstation, which was probably the point. They didn't really play much of their more hardcore-oriented tracks!
Not much needs to be said about Casanovas Schwule Seite; the set was well mixed and everything else was just fine! A side note: the drummer was chatting right before the performance in the bathroom with another guy, saying they were like penis twins because their dicks looked so similar. Exciting…
Then came Molotow Soda: As always, a blast! Only hits were played, but there were also one or two new songs. Since a new record is supposed to come out soon, it made everything even more exciting. Eventually, the inevitable happened, and the canister with the ever-popular drink "Molotow Soda" was passed around. I also got to enjoy this "cocktail," but it seemed to me that it was stronger than usual this time. Later, I found out that an important ingredient was missing; oh well… It was still great!
Conclusion: Excellent organization, a fantastic lineup of bands, and the right vibe from the crowd made it possible to have another top-notch evening in Bonn, and hopefully, it will continue to be established! I'm looking forward to Keinkultur Festival number 3!
