Broilers 15.06.2010 at E-Werk, Cologne
A spirit of experimentation! This is probably the keyword that first comes to mind for all fans, friends, and critics regarding the long-term development of this band.
Many long-time fans who have known the band for over 15 years have certainly raised some eyebrows about this.
But since yesterday, all doubts have surely vanished. After more than two hours of a spectacular party, even the wearers of the first Broilers T-shirts were completely happy and convinced.
The sound, which now incorporates influences from punk, Oi, ska, and rockabilly, captivated even the audience in the last row.
There was already an expectant atmosphere in the audience before the doors opened, and when it kicked off precisely at 9 PM with the new single "Harter Weg," the audience was rewarded for their presence within the first few minutes.
The entire evening was characterized by a friendly, almost familial atmosphere between musicians and audience.
Many jokes were made by the band, and especially guitarist and singer Samy Amara engaged the audience significantly. There was plenty of laughter throughout, giving each individual viewer a sense of friendship.
The personal atmosphere was clearly felt as the band interacted and teased the audience. Whether it was Samy and drummer Andreas Brügge reminiscing about their long-gone school days and encouraging the audience to "produce unnecessary volume" or the drums and keyboard engaging in a brief battle, with keyboardist Christian Kubczak clearly winning with well-known 90s hits.
You could see the musicians' enthusiasm for their audience, and above all, you could feel it.
A grand finale to the evening came with the highly anticipated song "Blume" as the fifth and final encore, where the entire Broilers crew came on stage to dance and celebrate with the band and the audience. After which one can rightly claim that the guys and bassist Ines kicked the bad reviews, where the word commerce was often a focal point, right in the ass.
This sold-out concert, with nearly 2000 attendees, felt more like a gathering with old and many new friends despite its size. Samy could have come on stage hoarse that evening, as the audience sang along to every single song with tremendous and captivating volume, and by the end of the night, the fans radiated satisfaction while the band expressed pure gratitude.
