AGNOSTIC FRONT with PHLEGMATIX at Roxy Club in Flensburg on 6.9.08

Well, I don't really need to mention that AGNOSTIC FRONT is one of the veterans of hardcore, do I? Actually, DO OR DIE and another American band were supposed to play. As fate would have it, DO OR DIE canceled; the singer was apparently on site and had a little meet-up with Roger and the rest of the Fronts. That meet-up went pretty well. Still, I wanted to see DO OR DIE and was relatively annoyed. We stood outside the commercial palace of the ROXY. I've been hanging around Flensburg for 4 months and had never been in this joint. In front of us was a bunch of young people who were clowning around and making bad jokes. At some point, it came out in their conversation that they were the guys from PHLEGMATIX, who come from the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. In my opinion, they could have stayed home because I watch actors on TV, not at concerts. Boy, what a bunch of clowns. The singer was the biggest joke; if I were the good Lord and had to decide who gets struck by lightning... that singer would have been hit multiple times that night...

Now, aside from their very boring music, which came across as far too monotonous with way too unclear vocals and that awful guitar sound, only the beer could comfort me. Poor guys... I hear the basement and see the hours they still need to practice! No, that was really not suitable for my refined ears. So I left... As a distraction, my friends and I mocked the singer, how he quickly styled his mohawk before the gig and immediately stripped on stage as if he were Brad Pitt... Yeah, that was funny!

After a quick changeover, it continued with the AF. The
sound was really bad for the first three to four songs... You could hardly
understand the singer, and it was somehow just a tinny sound... But that cleared up, and it really thumped nicely in the ears. They played a few tracks from the latest album and some hits, and I must say that they really hit you with powerful and demanding riffs. I don't find the albums that great, and the songs you know are already mush in my ears... But LIVE... A solid performance. Then came a number where Roger invited the girls from the audience onto the stage and explained a few rules about how to behave when a girl stage dives or wants to mosh... Boy oh boy... Like in a movie, as if this scene had been played out 100,000 times before. I already knew that and had to smirk! All the lines were the same old stuff as at the previous concert or as you can see in the online videos. As quickly as they came on stage, they disappeared just as quickly. No encores or any contact with the audience.

I must say one thing, though. I never thought 15 years ago that there would be hardcore concerts charging an admission price of a whopping 19,- €... Kids, that's almost 40,- DM just for a concert. Two bands, of which only one comes from the States... Surely, it could be cheaper! Nevertheless, a thank you to AF for the enjoyable evening. A thank you also goes to Marc from MAD BOOKING!!
