23.5. I WALK THE LINE (Fi)
From the Flensburger Hummels Eck, (the punk rock pub that I can highly recommend if you're in the area), we headed to the Volksbad to
the Finns of I WALK THE LINE. The support was EMILY, but even as a support band, I couldn't get into them at all. Their music was too boring, and one could even say monotonous. However, the interplay didn't hurt, and the relatively young gentlemen knew how to handle their instruments well. After a few beers, the mood became more positive and the crowd more relaxed. Then it was the Finns' turn, and I must say that it fit really well from the first note. They delivered a full-on performance with a lot of melody, and the relatively fresh output of the band, available on ROOKIE Records, was presented by the Northerners with a lot of fun and commitment. A bit of wave here, some dark gothic there, and a hefty dose of rock.
What impresses me about this band is the distinct vocals, which showcase their own character in every song and lead to instant recognition. So it was not only impressive, but it also showed that the Finns didn't mess around in the studio. The musical point of their releases is represented 100% and everyone will quickly get hooked on their songs.

24.5. Hafermarkt with Pestfest and other bands
As previously discussed, I find the Hafermarkt one of the best locations in Flensburg for punk and hardcore. The venue is simply good and, above all, affordable compared to other places in the city. From my perspective, the locals could still organize a few additional concerts here. Anyway, when I arrived, PESTFEST had already been playing for a while, and the singer caught my attention right away, not because of her looks, no no... The night before, she had fulfilled her kind of shining performance with a fight, having gotten into a scuffle with another lady for no reason. The end of the story was that her opponent had to be stitched up with four stitches in her face. Unfortunately, I arrived at Pestfest so late that I only caught two full songs. Their sound can be categorized in hardcore/punk, with male and female vocals. Additionally, there were backing vocals in the background. All in all, I already know the sound from ABGESTORBENEN GEHIRNHÄLFTEN, only that the A.G. are a bit faster. PESTFEST sings in both German and English, and the two songs... were nothing new, but also nothing that made me feel sick. The thought of the previous night rather took away my enthusiasm, as I really find fights within one's own ranks to be a real drag... No matter how much a woman or man has drunk. If you can't handle alcohol, you should keep your hands off it! The second band came from Holland, and honestly, I don't even know what they were called. Better that way... because what I heard was not good. It sounded like a dog on a cat, and the music was definitely not stage-ready for my ears. Well, practice, practice, and practice again... The third band then pulled me completely outside, as the monotonous style was also in the air here and just wouldn't stop. Well, outside, the atmosphere was better anyway. Flensburger's apparently don't seem to enjoy dancing and celebrating wildly. Anyway... Outside the door, the fire pit was on, and a lot of people I had gotten to know during my time here were there.

25.5. STRIKE ANYWHERE
Feeling quite battered, I went with one of the bar managers from Hummels Eck to the Volksbad to check out the gentlemen from STRIKE ANYWHERE for the third time and actually also to interview them. If my head from the previous days hadn't been so mushy, this would have definitely happened. Well, the interview didn't happen after all. The support was provided by The Detectors, and the three relatively young gentlemen gave their performance with a lot of fun and humor. The frontman jumped around as if there were no tomorrow, and Mr. Bassist came off as way too relaxed for the style they presented. Well, for little girls, I guess, so I'd rather go outside and smoke a cigarette. The music of Detectors is not catchy enough. The songs quickly become monotonous, and with their kind of dull "oooooo hh ooooo," it became increasingly boring for me, and the request for the main band grew larger. I think if the three guys keep at it, they might come up with their own style and earn a good name for themselves. Finally, the band from Virginia took the stage. It was about time, as it was getting cold outside. My last concert with STRIKE ANYWHERE was ages ago, and I had seen the band from a distance that wasn't enjoyable. For that reason alone, I was already excited about the delicious frying pan that was supposed to be shoved in my face, or at least wanted to be. The gentlemen had already been on the road in Europe for a whole 25 days, and with Flensburg, they were concluding their tour. With S.A., there isn't much more to say... Anyone who listens to punk knows this band and will certainly not be disappointed, especially because of the records they have already released. Each record is a little gem that should not be missing from any well-stocked record shelf. For their age, the guys are still encountered with a freshness, and the fun they have is magnetic, pulling you in from the very first minute.
I particularly liked the drummer; I believe he needs a new drum set every two months, given how he pounds on it. Almost like THE ANIMAL from the Muppets, he just needed the fur. Here and there, there were a few statements from the singer, and it was a wild rock-out. The sound was relatively good; I would have wished for more guitar, as the two guitarists coordinate well, and a little bit louder would have certainly been good too. Well, they gave it their all for just 40 minutes and left the stage as they had come. Although the people would have liked to hear a bit more. Well, I could have certainly endured a few more songs... But the wounds from the previous days were a bit bigger than the will to sing along to get the gentlemen back on stage.
All in all, I really enjoyed the band again, and on the next ride in Europe, I will definitely interview them... Just not in Germany anymore, but rather in Norway!
