Wuschel: Introduce yourselves to our readers. Who are KINGS AT CRIME? How did it come about? And how would you best describe your style?
Our band consists of Hörman on drums, Stein on bass/background, and me as the guitarist and vocalist. Until recently, Hoely played the second guitar, but he is leaving for New Zealand for 6 months at the beginning of January. We are currently looking for a new guitarist and have probably already found one... The good one is Chrissi and, like all of us, he comes from Boppard. We formed in the summer of 2003 at my birthday party. We had all known each other for several years and played in different bands. However, since we all wanted to make the same music, we tried out a few rehearsals... And since this worked wonderfully, we have stayed together until today and are still making music...
Our music is best found in the hardcore genre, which is what we want. Our goal is to write songs in the style of New York Hardcore, which is not that easy.... But we are working on it.

Wuschel: Do you have musical influences or do you try to sound as independent as possible?
I think every band has musical role models at the beginning of their existence and orients itself towards them. But over time, you develop further and eventually realize that you have found your own path and style...
That’s how it is with us too. Hardcore giants like Madball, Rykers, or Agnostic Front have influenced our decision to play hardcore. However, we want people to remember us for our songs and not say: "That sounds just like..."

Wuschel: You released your debut album independently. Did no label want you?
We recorded the CD to apply to concert organizers. We didn’t even think about sending the CD to a label. You were the one who brought that idea to us. So we sent several copies to various labels, but without success...

Wuschel: With Wally from TOXOPLASMA, you chose a producer who is more known for production in the punk rock area. How did that come about and how much punk rock is in KINGS AT CRIME?
Other than Wally, I don’t know anyone who runs a recording studio :-) In 1998, I became aware of Wally through DDP and recorded my first CD with my then-band "Code Fear" with him. And as luck would have it, Wally moved his studio next to our rehearsal room in 2005, so it was clear to us: We will record with Wally. We are not entirely satisfied with the result, as the energy from the drums is missing for the hardcore genre.

Wuschel: What lyrical content do your songs have?
Our songs are about friendship, personal experiences, current political issues... Actually everything that comes to our minds...

Wuschel: You are playing in Berlin at the beginning of 2007. To my knowledge, this is your first time outside your hometown. How did that come about?
We just sent our CD blindly to addresses. Yes, and then later we received an email that a two-day festival under the motto "Berlin Metal Allstars" is taking place in Berlin... Stupid, since we don’t play metal. But since we have had concerts with metal bands before, it fits.

Wuschel: What plans do you have for the future? Will there be new recordings soon?
First and foremost, we hope that our band doesn’t fall apart... Since I now live in Cologne, Stein has become a father, and the other guys are also pursuing their jobs, we are just managing to keep up with rehearsals and concerts...
Aside from that, we want to play concerts all over Germany, maybe find a label someday, and record our new songs. The material for that is already available, but like almost everyone else, we lack the money to record a CD. But we are working on it.

Wuschel: Finally, the super cool "OR" game:

Beer OR wine?

Meat OR vegetables?

Boppard – a cozy little town nestled in the Middle Rhine Valley, a spa resort for senile retirees, or a processing center for frustrated bowling club members. Or simply my birthplace and the birthplace of KINGS AT CRIME. Founded in 2004 and since their debut album, they have been close to my heart. Solid hardcore that marches forward, full of hate and anger, yet with just as much feeling. "Wachtmeister," the frontman of the four Rhinelanders, answered my questions.
