Subway To Sally have released their new album Himmelfahrt and the tour starts soon.
The new, now 14th album from the stalwarts of medieval rock, which is being released this week, is titled "HIMMELFAHRT". The dystopian lyrics of the predecessor "HEY!" are a thing of the past. The new album marks a turning point. "Himmelfahrt" is both an end and a new beginning. After the oppressive years characterized by confinement and stagnation, the new songs speak of departure and journey, of reaching out to others to lead them from the deepest depths into the light. Musically, the Potsdam band delivers a damn solid set of crowd-pleasers and great melodies. SUBWAY TO SALLY are vital, as if they came straight from a boot camp. You can feel the thirty years of stage and studio experience in every note and their insatiable hunger for the stage and their audience.
SUBWAY TO SALLY on Himmelfahrt:
"The new album marks a turning point. Himmelfahrt is both an end and a new beginning. The work on the songs for Himmelfahrt began long before Corona, shortly after the release of the last album Hey! This album dealt with a broken world, the destructive behavior of people towards each other and the environment in which they live. When Corona then swept the world with a pandemic, much of the album felt prophetic and oppressive. All the material created up to that point had to be put to the test and was discarded as outdated. SUBWAY TO SALLY have always dealt joyfully with the dark sides of the human soul. Over the years, a lot of blood has been shed and love has been murdered. But the lust for destruction is an attitude that works well when a fully fueled helicopter is waiting on the roof to carry us away from the zombie apocalypse. For the first time in the thirty-year history of the band, we had to ask ourselves whether it was time to celebrate hope. Hope is fuel for the future, and many songs on the new album deal with departure and journey, of reaching out to others to lead them from the deepest depths into the light. However, the most recent events in the world put this hope to a severe test. This explains the bittersweet note, the bitterness that clouds hope. Therefore, God must also have a voice on the album to express his disappointment with his work."
