CASEY Welsh post-hardcore legends unveil new single
Three live dates in Germany
'Great Grief'/'Atone' 7'' to be released on April 28 via Hassle Records
The Welsh post-hardcore legends Casey released their new single "Atone" on January 3, 2023, which will be released via Hassle Records.
The quintet will also celebrate their live return with us at the following dates:
January 18: DE Kulttempel Oberhausen [EXTRA SHOW]
January 19: DE Kulttempel Oberhausen [SOLD OUT]
January 20: DE Conne Island Leipzig [SOLD OUT]
Singer Tom Weaver comments on the single as follows: “ 'Atone' returns to the familiar terrain of heartbreak, but focuses more on the nuances than on the crescendo of the breakdown. With age, the collective weight of unspoken feelings becomes heavier, creating a distance that could be overcome with a good conversation - which often isn’t the case.
Sonically, we wanted to bring the album closer to the raw, passionate sound that fans often associate with our first record, but also demonstrate a level of maturity and progress that aligns with the changing feelings expressed through the lyrics over time. Instead of just being anxious and lamenting, we wanted the song to be more thoughtful and refined."
Both 'Atone' and 'Great Grief' will be pressed as a limited 7'' single and released on April 28 via Hassle Records. Only 1000 copies will be available worldwide, including through Evil Greed.
At its core, Casey is based on the idea that music is a labor of love. Without expectations of success, without the desire for fame, just with the shared longing to make music - and when that was no longer true, Casey stayed true to themselves and stepped back.
When Casey announced the disbandment at the end of 2018, it felt like a premature end. With their first two LPs - 2016 Love Is Not Enough and the second album released in 2018 Where I Go When I Am Sleeping - the Welsh quintet had firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting bands in the British alternative scene.
Now, four long years later, the band is back.
"Great Grief“ was the first song to emerge from Casey's resurrection, a beautifully dark track in which the band further expands the multifaceted soundscapes that underpinned the songs of Where I Go When I Am Sleeping. Broken, scraped, and bloody, yet shimmering with beautiful defiance.
In true Casey fashion, the open hearts of the band drip with the same kind of pain and trauma that has shaped them from the very beginning. Casey do not just reproduce the feelings that inspire them - they embody them.
