Just one year after the successful album "A Celebration Of Endings" (number 1 in the UK, top 5 in Germany), Biffy Clyro announce their new album "The Myth Of The Happily Ever After". The new album, produced entirely independently for the first time, will be released on October 22. A first preview, the song "Unknown Male 01", has already been released today.
"This new album is a real journey: all the thoughts, feelings, and moods we've had over the last 18 months come together in these new songs," describes Simon Neil, singer and guitarist of Biffy Clyro. The new album from the Scottish band, "The Myth Of The Happily Ever After", will be released just 14 months after the currently still relevant album "A Celebration Of Endings". The new work is somewhat the yin to the "A Celebration"-yang, the flip side of the coin. Between the optimism of "A Celebration of Endings" and the vulnerability of "The Myth Of The Happily Ever After", at least one pandemic fits in.
The lockdown situation meant that Biffy Clyro had to record "The Myth Of The Happily Ever After" completely differently than its predecessor. Instead of working for months in Los Angeles as before, they were forced to stay on the Scottish west coast this time and completed the recordings in just six weeks in their own rehearsal space, which they set up in a farmhouse nearby – and which the rhythm section brothers James and Ben Johnston quickly transformed into a proper studio in true DIY and craftsman style.
Originally, the idea was simply to finalize a few unfinished song ideas from "A Celebration Of Endings" – but then everything suddenly went in a completely different direction. Previously, Biffy Clyro had written about 90% of their songs in Scotland, but the recordings always took place in metropolises like London or Los Angeles. Working right at their doorstep, within a radius of just 10 miles, was clearly uncharted territory for the band: "It's basically our first album that we recorded entirely in Scottish rock," Simon notes with a laugh.

In parallel with the announcement of "The Myth Of The Happily Ever After", Biffy Clyro have already presented a first preview with "Unknown Male 01": epic six minutes long, the band goes through all aspects of their trademark sound throughout the song – from the unrestrainedly emotional intro to the distorted breakdown and a jagged, spiral riff that culminates in a massive crescendo. Thematically, it deals with a difficult subject: friends who have taken their own lives.
"When you lose people you really loved and who played a correspondingly large role in your life, it can definitely lead you to completely question your own life afterwards," says Simon. "Like so many people, I also struggle with dark thoughts. If you have that predisposition, you know you're looking into an abyss – but you don't want to let it get you down. These moments come back again and again. That's why the lyrics say, 'the devil never leaves.' There isn't a single day you wake up and think, 'I feel great, this will never bring me down again.'"
"The Myth of the Happily Ever After" is now available for pre-order. The song "Unknown Male 01" is available as an immediate download with pre-orders. In addition to the release as a CD and in digital formats, Biffy Clyro's new album will also be released as a limited vinyl edition (red vinyl), which comes with an absolute must-have: a bonus CD featuring the complete recording of their livestream show from the Glasgow Barrowland, which they performed in August 2020 on the occasion of the release of "A Celebration of Endings".
