The songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Myrkur will release her new album "Folkesange" on March 20, 2020, via Relapse. The Danish artist delves into the heart of Scandinavian culture with traditional instruments and storytelling in her new work, offering listeners an emotional, almost transcendental sound design.
The Danish Myrkur invigorated and divided the Black Metal scene alike with her two studio albums "M" (2015) and "Mareridt" (2017). Especially the second work received high praise far beyond genre boundaries. Myrkur challenged the rigid confines of a music genre and a whole host of listeners with her highly personal and emotional Black Metal interpretation - and won the favor of many music lovers.
With the birth of her first child, Myrkur then turned back to the roots of her own childhood: Scandinavian tales and traditional Nordic folk music have shaped the musician since her earliest years. In her new work "Folkesange", only these influences come into play, as Myrkur completely forgoes Black Metal elements.
With "Ella", Myrkur also releases a first song from the new work "Folkesange". "I have been listening to and playing traditional Nordic folk music for many, many years. 'Ella' is my version of a new folk song that has its roots in the past. It is my ode to humanity and our connection with nature." Myrkur further reports: "Three years ago, I shared a video in which I played an old Scandinavian folk song on a Nyckelharpa. From that moment, it became an urgent need for me to create a whole album within this cosmos."

The result is "Folkesange", which showcases one of the most exciting young metal artists in a completely new sound aesthetic for her. "Folkesange" by Myrkur will be released on March 20, 2020.
