After a concert by the punk band Rubberslime at SO36 in Berlin-Kreuzberg, small riots broke out around 2 AM on Sunday. After the concert, about 30 autonomists and around 100 punks gathered in front of SO36. After a small paper bin was set on fire at the corner of Oranienstraße / Mariannenstraße, autonomists and punks pushed a large, already burning trash bin into the street. Subsequently, more bins were brought out from the surrounding buildings. This resulted in two piles of three or four bins each burning fiercely on Oranienstraße. A glass recycling bin was placed between the two burning barricades, and its contents were extensively spread across the street. Stones were dug up and scattered on the road. Street signs were also repurposed as part of the barricades.
The 100 punks watching the scene applauded. The crowd chanted
"Never, Never, Never again Germany" and "No justice no Peace, fight the Police".
Meanwhile, the police still had not arrived, although four vans and even a water cannon had been spotted throughout the neighborhood before the concert. They shouted, "Kreuzberg we are here, Autonome Antifa" as well as "Nazis murder, the state deports - it's the same racist scum" and "German police protect the fascists" in what seemed to be a somewhat late response to the neo-Nazi march the day before, where at least four people were arrested and more than five were injured.
Then two fire trucks arrived. Only about five minutes later did the police show up with four vans, two from each side. They were met with stones and bottles being thrown. The first and last of that evening.
Subsequently, the fire department began extinguishing one barricade, while the other had already gone out on its own. The police formed a five-person mob, punched a watching punk in the face, and threw him against a glass window of a bar. He had to be taken to the hospital. After that, a police cordon formed on Oranienstraße, and the crowd was pushed towards the Görlitzer Platz subway station. Meanwhile, there were further arrests, a punk was beaten and kicked - he was just watching too. Police reinforcements arrived, and punks and autonomists fled towards the subway station. The police continued on to the S- and U-Bahn station Warschauerstraße, where more reinforcements were already waiting.
The remaining approximately 30 punks and autonomists left from there without further incidents.
