In May 2016, the long-awaited successor to Elder Giants, the debut of Sun Worship from Berlin, will be released. Originally intended solely as a digital and tape release, Elder Giants was eventually released on vinyl. Sun Worship gained worldwide attention for their successful fusion of older Scandinavian black metal styles and newer North American-influenced forms of the genre, resulting in their debut being pressed on vinyl for the fourth time recently.
After European tours with bands like Unru, Ultha, and N, as well as performances at the Dutch festivals Roadburn and Incubate, the O Tannenbaum Waldfest, the CTM in Berlin, and the Finnish H2Ö festival, Sun Worship returned to the studio on January 1, 2016. With Henner Henzler (Tonmeisterei, Oldenburg), the band recorded their second album Pale Dawn in the Golden Retriever Studios, featuring four tracks that stretch the previously set musical boundaries of the band, while maintaining the characteristic melodic roughness and rigorous momentum typical of Sun Worship. Pale Dawn is driven by the furious yet musical drumming, which acts as an equal instrument alongside the two guitars and vocals.
While Elder Giants revolved around the Earth and our solar system, Pale Dawn looks beyond that, towards the ominous beauty of the vast cosmos. References here include Berlin electronics and cosmic music; Manuel Göttsching is as important an influence for Sun Worship as Mayhem, Mount Eerie, and Moondog. Musically more accessible yet also more reserved, to a greater extent both minimalist and complex than its predecessor, Pale Dawn allows the band to explore and adopt new, powerful musical expressions.
The intentionally raw, dynamic recordings were mastered by Enormous Door. For the high-quality artwork and design, and the special presentation—the 180 g edition comes in the traditional "Tip-On-Cover with bronze impression"—Raoul Mazzero, alias View From The Coffin, has once again taken care of it.
The album is now available to listen to in full force and full extent in the stream: soundcloud.com/golden-antenna/sets/sun-worship-pale-dawn
