To lay the foundations for a subgenre as a band takes quite a bit. In the case of the punk legends HOT WATER MUSIC and the Gainesville punk named after the band's hometown, it's a often copied but never quite achieved blend of roughness and melodic sensibility, of heart and pain, of raucous punk guitars and the most anthemic singalongs of the American East Coast – and, at least according to some critics, a preference for full beards and flannel shirts.
With their debut "Fuel For The Hate Game," HOT WATER MUSIC shaped their own sound with whiskey breath, hoarse screams, and bloodied fingertips, laying an essential cornerstone in the foundation of US punk that is now indispensable. Over the years, the band has remained true to the core idea of punk with heart and message, but has continually fine-tuned the well-oiled, melodic beard punk machine with albums like "No Division," "The New What’s Next," and most recently "Exister." Since the journey is known to be the destination, a special best-of now illustrates 20 years of band history.
The "20th Anniversary Collection" gathers the best songs of the punk band from Gainesville/Florida across four LPs, naturally including earworms like "It’s Hard To Know," "No Division," "Trusty Chords," and "Drag My Body," to which one can sing along and embrace at any time of day. The band's retrospective is rounded off with brand new artwork by band intimate Scott Sinclair. Two special treats: the B-side of the fourth LP, featuring four songs that were previously only available on the compilations "Til The Wheels Fall Off" and "Never Ender," and two previously unreleased live versions of "Manual" and "Rooftops."
The "20th Anniversary Collection" will be released via Rise Records on March 27, 2015 (only!) on quadruple gatefold vinyl.
