BANE says goodbye, but not quietly and secretly, rather with a loud and gnawed album – as befits one of the most important US hardcore bands of recent years. With "Don’t Wait Up," the band throws all their pent-up anger and frustration into the balance before they finally bid farewell to the stage in 2015. What will definitely remain: a worthy legacy and the message of the importance of unity, honesty, and a heart for the good cause.
In times when bands release new albums almost every year, it’s also nice to take a step back. It’s actually remarkable that the best example of a band achieving the maximum possible with minimal musical output comes from the bustling hardcore scene, which thrives on seven-inches and short, punchy songs. BANE seems unbothered by this paradox, as the musicians around frontman Aaron Bedard have been performing on larger and smaller stages since 1995, spreading the message that is close to their hearts: solidarity, sincerity, the significance of a true counterculture to the polished rock and pop world, all underscored by pounding drums, brutal guitars, and a sense for a certain, subtle melody.
