Secret Garden – The new unplugged album “Just The Two Of Us” features the greatest hits of the successful duo
The award-winning Irish-Norwegian duo Secret Garden has sold over 4.5 million albums to date. Secret Garden first gained worldwide attention by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1995. Their winning song Nocturne consisted of just 24 words and was otherwise performed instrumentally.
This laid the foundation for the success of their first album “Songs from a Secret Garden”. The record sold a million copies worldwide, achieved platinum status in Norway and Korea, gold status in Ireland, Hong Kong, and New Zealand, and was represented in the US Billboard charts in the New Age category for two years (1996 and 1997). Barbara Streisand chose “Heartstrings” from this album as her own wedding song and later released the track under the title “I’ve Dreamed of You” on her album “A Love Like Ours”.
Since then, Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry and Norwegian pianist and composer Rolf Løvland, with over four million albums sold worldwide, have become the most successful Norwegian music export of the past two decades. Their repertoire includes eight original albums and numerous compilations that have reached the top of the charts in many countries across the USA, Asia, and Europe.
Additionally, Secret Garden has been responsible for the film scores of several international movies, composed, arranged, and produced by Rolf Løvland.
Another highlight was the duo's television appearance in Oslo at the traditional concert for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 (which that year went to “Doctors Without Borders”).
“You Raise Me Up”, the duo's most famous song, has been covered by nearly a thousand other artists, including Josh Groban – his version was number 1 in the USA and was nominated for a Grammy – and Westlife, who reached number 1 in the UK and won the coveted “Record Of The Year” award in 2005. Other artists include Il Divo, Kenny G, Aretha Franklin, Helene Fischer, Selena Gomez, Paul Potts, and Celtic Woman. In 2005, Rolf received the ASCAP Award because the track was played a million times on the radio in the USA.
The new unplugged album Just The Two Of Us features the greatest hits of the successful duo as well as two additional new recordings in a stunningly beautiful unplugged version, thus delivering the most personal and purest album from Secret Garden:
“In live concerts we normally present our music with a full band – sometimes even with a symphony orchestra. But inside the programme we always like to perform a few pieces just as a duo – with violin and piano only. These are our most precious moments – that’s when we feel a special musical connection between us."
