Why should you support Festsaal Kreuzberg?
A question that we, the operators of Festsaal Kreuzberg, have been confronted with since the time when we were still playing football in schoolyards, is about insurance. In the past, we were simply prohibited from playing due to the lack of it, but today the situation is not so straightforward. While we have learned our lesson from the times when the ball was taken away from us and are insured, none of us have faced a damage case of this magnitude before. Together, we have been responsible for several cars, a few bicycles, window panes, mobile phones, amplifiers, and similar technical equipment. However, a total loss of a building is new to us and not only complicated for that reason.
In the compensation claims following such a fire, several partners are involved, such as the owner, the landlord, us as tenants, and the respective insurance companies. Unfortunately, the combination of all the covered compensations does not lead to the restoration of the Festsaal as it appeared in recent years. From what we have been able to ascertain so far, our technical inventory is insured, and the same likely applies to the raw building. However, the interior construction is not insured, and that was significant.
As operators, we took over Festsaal Kreuzberg as a Turkish wedding hall and literally expanded it through years of hands-on work to make it usable for concerts and parties. Neither the installations we found at the beginning nor our years of labor are insured. The resulting coverage gap is one of the most serious problems for the reconstruction.
Only if we manage to raise enough money, secure a proper loan, and overcome all legal hurdles can Festsaal Kreuzberg be rebuilt. And now it’s your turn - hopefully on Friday at Postbahnhof and soon at events under the label Edition Festsaal.
