Active and industrious as rarely before, Neil Young is currently making waves with his congenial backing band Crazy Horse. Just in June, the magnificent work "Americana" was released, which climbed into the Top 5 of the charts in many countries, including the USA (4th place) and Canada (2nd place). Now, in the fall – specifically on October 26 – the next extraordinary epic is set to be released:
The extensive concept work "Psychedelic Pill," spread over two CDs and three vinyl LPs, lives up to its name stylistically, as the eight songs (plus one bonus track) offer a total playing time of almost one and a half hours. The heavily psychedelic-influenced sound journeys, shaped by many exciting jams, do not fit into any usual format and vary in length from just two and a half minutes to nearly half an hour, depending on the conceptual design.
Accordingly, the first single extracted from this special work also stands out: "Walk Like A Giant" runs for nearly 17 minutes (though there will be a shorter radio edit). Amid powerful guitar arrangements with a psychedelic touch and quirky whistling interludes, the unmistakable character of a Neil Young composition can be heard at all times. "Psychedelic Pill" was recorded immediately after "Americana" at the Audio Casablanca Studios; alongside the album, accompanying videos for each individual song were created, which can either be accessed online individually or, later in the year, as a multimedia experience on Blu-ray.
The album is accompanied by a two-month US tour, during which Neil Young & Crazy Horse – featuring the renowned musicians Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina, and Poncho Sampredo – will perform at many legendary venues such as New York's Madison Square Garden or the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Around this tour, Neil Young's annual "Bridge School" charity event will also be held again. Guests at this always exciting event this year include the Flaming Lips, Jack White, Guns’n Roses, and many other superstars. With this – as well as with the new album "Psychedelic Pill," which breaks every conventional mold – Neil Young once again demonstrates his absolute exceptional status in contemporary rock music.
