The title track of the new Rufus Wainwright album “Out Of The Game” has been available as a digital single since March 12 in online stores. Now, the video clip for this wonderfully catchy tune is also being released. It is being presented today, among other places, on Tape.TV, Rollingstone.de, and Musikexpress.de. It can also already be admired on Universal Music.
In the video, Rufus Wainwright lends his voice to actress Helena Bonham Carter. The muse and wife of Tim Burton is dressed as a gray mouse and is lost in sensual dreams. “The clip shows how we get down to business in a library,” Rufus revealed to the British newspaper The Sun. “We have been friends for years. She is not only beautiful and very glamorous, but she is also incredibly funny. By the end of the video, she is basically only wearing a bra.” And then he adds with a wink: “I really appreciate her friendship; it will advance my career.”
“The idea for the song came to me when I saw what kids today do to get attention,” Wainwright explains. “It leads them to upload all sorts of nonsense on YouTube. When I started my career, I also did a lot of nonsense, but ultimately it was always really about the music for me. Of course, I also created an image, but the older I get, the more exhausting the whole concept becomes. In the first two verses, I complain, but in the third verse, there is also a bit of envy mixed in. I would love to be that age again and just as silly that I could get excited about idiotic things. So I’m not heartless, just tired.”
The new Rufus Wainwright album, produced by Mark Ronson, will be released in Germany on April 20.
