Poetry without verbal violence, that is the key with which Meike Schrader opens the hearts of her listeners wide. One feels addressed and women can recognize themselves. It is certainly not radio-friendly everyday lyrics that wash over us, but catchy contemporary music that convinces through its multifaceted styles. With influences from jazz and chanson, emotions are awakened in the audience. Meike Schrader masters the fine line of a high musical standard for herself – she makes it accessible.
„... And we stop more and more often, because it’s hard to look into the eyes while walking...”
- The lyric line from the title song of the debut album “The Green in Your Eyes” reveals both the expression of the music and the nuances of an artist's personality. Meike Schrader combines poetic texts with touching tones, creating songs of special harmony.
Feminine but not girlish, sometimes melancholic and optimistic, sometimes life-affirming and serious. Inspirations that go beyond fun and entertainment and resonate longer than a concert evening lasts or a CD plays.
The pianist, born in Hamburg in 1977, invites you to simply pause before the hustle and bustle of everyday life takes hold. Personal experiences, humorous observations of her surroundings, and thoughts on human existence flow into her lyrics – delivered in an old voice with a touch of Désinvolture – filling the space, enchanting.
The guest musicians on the album, Knud Feddersen and Oliver Karstens on drums and double bass, infuse the revived genre of singer-songwriter music with jazzy playfulness and catchy foundations. They, along with their musicians on trumpet, trombone, clarinet, violin, and cello, have already shown in bands like Fettes Brot, Roger Cicero, and Annett Louisan how cross-genre arrangements work...
