Puta Madre Brothers release second album - It's A Long Long Way To Meximotown - on March 23, 2012

Australian trio stays true to their Mexican roots with second album on Rookie Records

Cologne, 02.02.2012 – On March 23, the second album of the Puta Madre Brothers with the catchy title "It’s A Long Long Way To Meximotown" will be released on Rookie Records. Just 14 months after their acclaimed debut "Queso y Cojones", this Australian trio with a strong affinity for Mexican sounds delivers their second long player. These Australians – not only funny like Mexicans but also hardworking like bees! Anto, Pikke, and Renato remain true to their textile folklore: life is already hard enough, so there’s no need to compose heavy-hearted problem music. And why shouldn’t Rookie also afford a profoundly cheerful band?

"It’s A Long Long Way To Meximotown" combines 14 songs with the familiar influences of Richie Valens, Nathaniel Mayer, and Pedro Vargas into a unique spaghetti-western-mariachi-rock’n’roll-60s-lo-fi sound with occasional influences that one might almost call modern. The three leisure Mexicans pay homage to their mothers-in-law with "Para Su Madre", sing about their ugly dogs in "Mi Perro Es Tan Feo", and cheer for men in "A Theme For Vincent Fernandez" whom they would have liked to have as fathers.

In addition to the usual madness for which the Putas have been infamous since their last European tour, they also shine this time with two wonderful cover versions. From the hit "The Whole Damn Thing" by Those Darlins, the trio creates "Todo El Asunto", and "Dodo Blues" by fellow countryman C.W. Stoneking transforms into a funky Spanglish number called "Blues Dodo". The album will be released by Rookie Records not only as a CD but also as a limited vinyl edition with a bonus track.
