DrahtSeilAkt – Balance in Chaos
Guitarist Uwe Bossert and singer Nora Grisu release their first joint album.
Uwe Bossert and Nora Grisu meet for the first time in 2009: after eleven successful years with Reamonn, Bossert is on the verge of a creative break when Grisu crosses his path. Grisu captivates the passionate guitarist with her wordplay. Both musicians are searching for something new, a space where they can realize themselves.
Until then, Bossert's career has been shaped by pop, while Grisu comes from the tradition of singer-songwriters. They compose their first joint song and are fascinated: He by her word games and breaks and the sparseness of her melodies, she by his ability to translate moods into harmonies. In the experiment, the juggling of words and melodies leads to the first musical constructions. A new band is born: DrahtSeilAkt.
The two musicians could not be more different: She zigzags, he goes straight. She is on the outer edges, he is on the center line. She is drawn to the shadows, he to the sun. Uwe Bossert is very active and enjoys being creatively collaborative: in the form of songwriting with artists like Nelly Furtado, with whom he also performs on stage, as well as with the Count of Unheilig; or as a producer - with the debut of DrahtSeilAkt, also for the first time for his own band.
Grisu prefers to be her own boss until now; instead of going on stage, she is drawn to distant places, breaking away from her everyday life as often as possible: to observe how others walk on their tightropes, whether in the village around the corner or in South Africa. The implementation of her observations, thoughts, and ideas into linguistic images increasingly fascinates her, and she collects them in the form of poems, song lyrics, or short stories.
As different as their characters are, so diverse is the album: DrahtSeilAkt search and criticize - find and love - question and doubt - rub against life! They are storytellers in their very own language. They take the listener along. To magical mountains and card houses, hanging Snow White on trees and telling stories of vagabonds, time collectors, or pattern people with blinders.
Always present: The search for meaning, balance in chaos, one's own place in the world - the image of the swaying tightrope.
In Uwe Bossert's delicate guitar playing, the love for jazz shines through, while in Nora Grisu's lyrics, the love for literature and poetry is evident. Each of them dances around the other's melody. Grisu's singing is unpretentious and sometimes softly and darkly lays itself, sometimes more demanding, into the complex sound bed of Uwe Bossert's guitars, which seems to open a second layer of clear, healing harmonies within the sometimes shadowy world of the lyrics.
