He was considered an important intermediary between various far-right and right-wing radical movements. Rieger had been the state chairman of the Hamburg NPD since February 2007 and the deputy chairman of the NPD since May 2008. He was regarded as the most important financier of the NPD and repeatedly came into the spotlight due to his properties, which he used as meeting points and venues for the far-right scene.
