People Like You Records is currently not doing very well. Planned new releases, for example, the Toxpack album or the Broilers DVD, had to be postponed due to the tense economic situation. In search of ways to resume operations, they have now come across the major Century Media Records. Starting October 1, People Like You will belong to the EMI Group, which makes it very difficult for smaller bands. It can be doubted that a major will still have interest in the previous underground program.
This seems to be the view of the label's founder and creator, Andre Bahr, who will be leaving People Like You. He expressed his reasons to the TorunToRock magazine: http://www.turntorock.de/rocknews/newsdetails/people-like-you-records-sind-zurueck.html
Andre will now put all his energy into his newly founded label I Hate People.
The official People Like You press release:
"Starting October 1, 2009, People Like You is part of the Century Media EMI family.
Label manager Tobbe Falarz is pleased about the Europe-wide distribution deal after the hard months caused by the insolvency of SPV: "I am glad that we have succeeded in integrating Europe's leading punk & psychobilly label into EMI."
A change rarely comes alone: With the change in distribution, the traditional label must also note the departure of founding partner and managing director André Bahr, who is leaving his position at People Like You Records to pursue new paths.
For the rest of the year, People Like You has announced 4 high-profile releases:
With the "Anti-Archives" of the Broilers, an absolute highlight is immediately on the agenda: With their very first DVD, the Düsseldorf band impresses on 2 DVDs with over 6 1/2 hours of playtime, a 3D glasses with exclusive 3D content, a complete band history, all music videos, as well as the two sold-out fascinating shows in Düsseldorf and Leipzig.
At the same time, People Like You is bringing the new German hardness into the home sound system with Toxpack from Berlin. The 12 new hits produced by Harris Johns (SLIME, KREATOR, SEPULTURA) leave no wishes unfulfilled for all fans of the harder street punk style. A special kick is also provided by the guest vocals of Gary Meskil (Pro Pain) and Joost DeGraf (Discipline)!
In November, the legendary Adicts - probably the best and most enduring English punk band - will release their new album "Life Goes On" in stores and, of course, also go on an extensive headliner tour. "Life Goes On" impresses with great punk rock anthems and seamlessly connects to their absolute genre classic "Songs of Praise."
With the Norwegian cult rockers Gluecifer, People Like You has brought in the legendary Scandinavian band next to Turbonegro. "B-sides and Rarities 1994-2005" is a great collection of all rare and unreleased songs by the band, which have never been heard in this collective form before."
